Messi Reflects on a Lesson Football Couldn’t Teach Him
Despite conquering world football, Lionel Messi says there is one skill he wishes he had mastered earlier in life, which is speaking English.
The Argentine star recently shared that his success on the pitch did not erase moments when he felt held back in personal conversations because of language barriers. While football opened doors around the world, he admitted that not being able to express himself freely in English sometimes made him feel left out of important interactions.
Messi revealed that he had the chance to learn the language as a child but failed to take it seriously at the time. Now older and more reflective, he sees that choice as a missed opportunity.
Rather than dwell on regret, the football icon says the experience has changed how he raises his children.
He now places strong emphasis on education and preparation, encouraging them to make better use of opportunities than he once did.
Currently playing for Inter Miami CF, Messi added that football itself has been a powerful teacher, shaping his character, values, and outlook on life. Still, he believes personal development goes beyond trophies and titles.
