Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has resigned from his position as he prepares to contest the governorship of Bauchi State.

His resignation was confirmed by the ministry on Monday, ending his time in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.

Tuggar’s move had been widely expected, with earlier signals pointing to his interest in the Bauchi governorship race. He now joins the list of political office holders stepping aside to pursue elective positions.

The Bauchi-born politician has been active in the state’s political scene and has previously contested for the same governorship seat, making his latest move more of a return to an ambition he has long pursued.

With his exit, attention now shifts to the unfolding political race in Bauchi, as preparations gradually begin ahead of the next election cycle.
