The Dangote Group has refuted rumours that the President Bola Tinubu government takes revenue from every bag of cement sold in Nigeria.

A Facebook post falsely attributed to Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, claimed that the government takes 52k from every N1 on cement. This would amount to N6,240 from every bag of cement.

On Wednesday, the company responded by sharing a screenshot of the viral claim on X and simply labelled it “Fake”.

The Dangote Group issued no further details in its rebuttal. The denial comes as misinformation spreads on social media, including the use of AI-generated content for political purposes.
